It went down to the last day of May but ThymicUK’s chair and founder Karen Ruddock completed the challenge of walking 100km within the month to help raise awareness for thymic cancers.
Thanks to the incredibly generous donations from 65 people on Go Fund Me, Karen raised an incredible £2310 for ThymicUK.
The money raised will make a significant difference in helping ThymicUK achieve its aims of:
- Improving awareness of thymic cancers
- Helping to facilitate research of thymic cancers
- Advocating for better treatments for patients with thymic cancers
Karen walked on 14 days in the month of May, 2022, achieving a total of 103.18km walked, in total.
This was no mean feat for Karen, given she underwent major surgery in late 2021 to remove her left lung. Karen was diagnosed with Thymoma in 2015 and started ThymicUK as a support group in 2018.
In her own words:
“I’ve far exceeded my expectations of what I thought I would raise for such a small charity. This means so much to me. I hope you realise the difference you have made.
Your messages of support have been so kind and encouraging and really helped to keep me going on days when I felt fatigued and sore from my surgery.
And to everyone that joined me on some of my walks, thank you, thank you, thank you!”
