What is Cancer52? What Does it Mean for Thymic Cancers?

You may have noticed that ThymicUK is a member of Cancer52; but who are they, and what does that mean?

Let’s take a look…

Cancer52 is an alliance of over 100 organisations in the UK, united in improving the future for everyone affected by rare and less common
cancers – defined as all cancers outside the ‘big four’ of breast, prostate, lung and bowel.

Like ThymicUK, these member organisations are predominantly small patient-support cancer charities.

You can see a full list of member charities here.

Cancer52 empowers its member organisations; they capture the voice of those with rare and less common cancers and take it to those bodies and individuals who need to hear it. Cancer52 works to influence cancer policy, science, clinical outputs, services and treatment.

This is needed. Current data shows that 47% of cancers diagnosed are rare and less common cancers, yet they account for 55% of cancer deaths.

Examples of recent Cancer52 initiatives include; a joint letter to the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, asking for them to set a
clear date for the publication of the 10 year Cancer Plan; a report highlighting inequalities in rare and less common cancers; the launch of
the Do You C Us? Campaign.
